THE GREAT GREEK MYTHS – REIMAGINED
Ancient Narratives Through a Contemporary Artistic Vision
exhibition curated by
Giorgio Bertozzi – Ferdan Yusufi
Ancient Greek mythology continues to inspire contemporary thought and artistic creation. Its gods, heroes and symbolic figures embody enduring questions about human nature, power, desire, destiny and transformation.
In The Great Greek Myths – Reimagined, Greek visual artist Stella Evgena revisits twelve mythological narratives through her distinctive contemporary artistic language.
Rather than treating mythology as a subject of historical illustration, Evgena approaches it as a living field of interpretation and creative transformation.
Ancient figures and stories enter a new visual context, inviting audiences to reconsider their symbolism and discover their continuing relevance.
In her work, painting engages with materials such as stainless steel and plexiglass. Colour, light, depth and three-dimensional form extend the boundaries of the painted surface, creating new relationships between image, space and viewer. Pointillism is a distinctive element of her painterly language.
Through the encounter between ancient mythology and contemporary artistic practice, the exhibition explores the relationship between cultural heritage and present-day creativity.
The presentation in Istanbul provides a distinctive setting for these narratives to engage with an international audience in a city historically shaped by the meeting of different cultures and civilizations.
The Great Greek Myths – Reimagined invites viewers to approach mythology not merely as a legacy of the past, but as a living source of artistic inspiration, symbolic meaning and intercultural dialogue.
Stella Evgena brings ancient myths into the present, offering a fresh perspective on narratives that continue to speak to humanity.
