Enrico Lombardi, painter and writer, was born in Meldola in the province of Forlì (Italy) in 1958. For over thirty years he has been showing intensively both in Italy and abroad, an activity which went along with his endless reflection on the philosophy of the visual language. After attending the School of Visual Arts in Bologna he takes part to many group shows among which the “First Mediterranean Biennial” in Barcelona, Spain and the “Young Biennial” in Bologna in 1985; twice to the “Premio Campigna/Campigna Award” in S. Sofia, Italy in 1987 and 1990; “Pitture. Il sentimento e la forma/Paintings. Shape and sentiment)” in Treviso and Bologna in 1996; the “Prima Biennale della figurazione fantastica e meravigliosa/First Biennial of the fantasy and wonder figuration) inside the chambers of the Castle in Poppi, Tuscany in 1997; “Sui Generis” at the P.A.C. in Milan in 2000; “Figure del ‘900 (2)”/Figures from the XX Century (2)in Bologna in 2001; “Urban landscape” at the Carousel du Louvre in Paris in 2005. Many are also his one-man shows, three of them at the “Forni Gallery” in Bologna and Milan (2000-2002-2006); two monographic shows, one at the Wimmer Gallery in Montpellier, France (1999) and the second at the “Galleria delle Arti” in Bologna (1997); “Distances” in Apt (2004); “L’oro della memoria/The gold of memory” at the Art Bank in London (2005). The art critic Alessandro Riva has invited him to take part to the art group “Italian Factory” for the “New Italian Figuration” and he has been part of it since 2004. With this project he shows his work in the shows “The new Italian art scene” at the Taipei Museum of Art in 2007; “New figuration … to be continued” at the Borroni Foundation and “Rumors” at the Arsenal in Turin both in 2008 and “No Landscape” at the Bandera Foundation in 2009. The second volume of “I Quaderni di Italian Factory/The notebooks of Italian Factory” edited by Charta called “Voci nel buio/Voices in the dark” comes out in 2006 and contains a brand new story by the writer Edoardo Albinati. In 2007, along with his one-man show at the Museum of Art in Forlì, a monographic book published by Electa both in Italian and English comes out. The book called “Il Grido Silenzioso/The Silent Cry” is curated by the philosopher Rocco Ronchi with whom he has collaborated and been friend for many years. In 2007 the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi invites him to the show “Arte Italiana 1968-2007. Pittura/Italian Art 1968-2007. Painting” to remark his constant presence on the new Italian art scene. His work is also present in many Museum collections, such as the Museums in Conegliano, Ravenna, Forlì and Davis Museum in Barcellona. His work has been reviewed over the years in main Italian art magazines and several among the most important Italian critics and writers have dedicated time over time extensive essays to his work (Marco Goldin, Michele Loffredo, Nicola Micieli, Claudio Spadoni, Marco Di Capua, Alessandro Riva, Vittorio Sgarbi, Chiara Canali). Extremely rich is also his collaboration with poets and philosophers with the result of several texts for the purpose of reading and interpreting his art (Rocco Ronchi, Fulvio Abbate, Umberto Fiori, Silvia Lagorio, Federico Leoni, Edoardo Albinati, Antonella Anedda, Carlo Sini). A selection of his theoretical writings has been published in the book “Al limite del mondo, Filosofia, estetica, psicopatologia/To the limit of the world, Philosophy, aesthetics, psycho-pathology” curated by Federico Leoni and Mauro Maldonato (Dedalo Edition 2002) as well as in many of his monographic catalogues.

In the fall of 2009 the art critic Marco Goldin invites him to the show on the new italian painting “Pittura d’Italia” (Italy’s painting) exhibited in Rimini along with the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; and the Show “Italia dipinta” (Painted Italy) at the IULM University in Milan, curated by his students and attested by a Catalogue edited by Silvana Editoriale. Towards the end of 2009 a one-man show “Il tempo dell’ombra” (The shadow time) curated by Chiara Canali and presented by the poet Antonella Anedda takes place in Ravenna with the support of the Ravenna Culture Council and the Museum of Art. A new collaboration with the Blackheath Gallery in London has been operative since 2010. In the year 2011 he was invited to the 3th Edition of the “Maretti Award. Valerio Riva memorial” held in the prestigious halls of the Pecci Musuem in Prato Italy and to the 54th Venice Biennial (International Art Exhibition), chosen by the Italian philosopher Carlo Sini, at the Arsenal Corderie in Venice. In the Fall 2011 he organizes and installs his own one-man show “The patience of the shadow” presented by Carlo Sini and sponsored by the Municipal Musuems at the Church of the Pio Suffragio in Bagnacavallo, near Ravenna”.
